In response to safety concerns, Tesla has issued a recall for a total of 271 Model S and Model X vehicles in China. The recall comes after the discovery of potential issues with seat belts and front camera positioning, raising safety risks for passengers and drivers.
The affected vehicles consist of 233 Model S and Model X units that were produced between the 5th of February and the 16th of May, 2023. An additional 37 vehicles, produced between the 17th of January and the 11th of July, 2023, are also part of the recall.
The seat belt issue in the first group of vehicles arose from a possible misconnection of the front seat belt parts to the pretensioner anchors during the manufacturing process or after-sale service. This misconnection could compromise the effectiveness of the seat belts in restraining passengers during a crash, potentially posing a safety risk.
To address this concern, Tesla has taken responsibility for inspecting the front seat belts on the affected vehicles. The company has committed to covering all associated costs, including any necessary replacements.
Meanwhile, the second set of vehicles faces problems related to the front camera positioning. These units failed to meet the pitch angle design specifications, which could have adverse effects on the proper functioning of the active safety features and driver alerts. This presents a significant safety risk on the road.
Tesla intends to address the camera positioning issue by thoroughly examining the front camera pitch angle on the affected vehicles and rectifying any errors found during the inspection.
It’s worth noting that Tesla had previously taken similar measures to address safety concerns in the United States, where a recall involving approximately 16,000 Model S and Model X vehicles was initiated due to seat belt issues. The company is maintaining a proactive approach to ensure the safety and satisfaction of its customers worldwide.
Owners of the affected Model S and Model X vehicles in China can rest assured that Tesla is taking these matters seriously and working diligently to resolve the identified issues promptly. Safety remains a top priority for the electric vehicle manufacturer, and they are committed to delivering a reliable and secure driving experience for all their customers.
