Tesla, the renowned electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has reached a remarkable milestone with the installation of its 45,000th Supercharger worldwide. The company’s public charging network is one of the main selling points for Tesla cars, and this achievement highlights the company’s commitment to expanding its charging infrastructure.
What’s even more impressive is that the jump from 40,000 to 45,000 Superchargers took only five months, demonstrating Tesla’s dedication to providing reliable and convenient charging options for EV owners worldwide. This is significant, as the expanding network is expected to have a positive impact on the overall EV ownership experience, especially when it comes to long-distance travel.

It is worth noting that Tesla has recently opened up its Supercharger network to non-Tesla owners in some regions, such as in more than a dozen European countries and the United States. While non-Tesla EV owners will need to use a CCS adapter to connect to Tesla’s North American Charging Standard connectors, it is still a welcome move that could increase confidence in using EVs for long-distance travel.
Approximately half of the Superchargers were made by the team at Giga New York, who are also responsible for producing Megachargers for Tesla’s electric truck, the Semi. Tesla’s charger factory in Shanghai has the capacity to produce 10,000 units of the V3 per year. However, the company is focused on expanding the availability of V4 Superchargers and Megachargers in preparation for the wider delivery of the Semi.
