Tesla is preparing to resume production at Shanghai’s Giga on Monday after receiving the green light from local authorities, two people familiar with the matter said.
Giga Shanghai from March 28 suspended production after the city began a lockdown to combat a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The plan to resume production at the Shanghai Giga has the blessing of local authorities but is subject to change depending on the Covid-19 situation in Shanghai, said the source, who declined to be named as the matter is personal.
One person said Tesla plans to start production at the Shanghai Giga with one shift and will gradually increase it.
Tesla and the Shanghai government itself declined to comment on the plans.
The production shutdown which was carried out on March 28 was the longest since the factory started production at the end of 2019. It is estimated that the shutdown resulted in a loss of output of more than 50,000 units.
Even if production continues on Monday tomorrow, there may be a new problem, namely the difficulty of procuring auto parts, because logistics in the city and its surroundings have been severely disrupted by China’s COVID-19 restrictions.
