Tesla plans to building Cybertruck battery packs at Freemont factory

Tesla is reportedly planning to build the batteries for the Cybertruck electric pickup truck at their Fremont plant, while the vehicles will be assembled in Giga Texas.

In late August Tesla submitted an application for a permit to the City of Fremont to build a new battery manufacturing line at the Fremont plant. Under the permit application submitted, Tesla will construct a new ‘CTA Battery B-Build’ line on the second floor of the main assembly building.

According to sources familiar with the plans who spoke to Teslarati, Tesla will take battery cells manufactured in other locations and assemble the Cybertruck’s battery pack on a new path.

It remains unclear whether the battery pack will contain 4680 battery cells. The same source said construction of a new line had begun in Fremont, and engineers had already installed equipment to manufacture the battery packs that will be used for the Cybertruck electric pickup truck.

The completed battery pack will be shipped to Giga Texas, where the Cybertruk will be assembled. Once Giga Texas increases their production of 4680 cells, all Cybertruck manufacturing will be moved to Texas.

This is a sign that Cybertruck production will be carried out according to a predetermined schedule.
