Tesla has opened its first full-scale public Megacharger station for the Tesla Semi in Bloomington, California, marking a milestone in the expansion of its heavy-duty electric truck charging network.
The new facility, located at 18434 Valley Boulevard, features six Megacharger stalls, each capable of delivering up to 1.2MW of charging power using Tesla’s second-generation MC2 charging connector.
Higher-Power Public Charging
Tesla announced the opening through a social media post linking to its charging map.
The Bloomington station replaces an earlier nearby site in Ontario that offered two charging stalls using Tesla’s first-generation MC1 connector, which provided up to 750kW of charging power.
The previous Ontario location no longer appears on Tesla’s charging map.
Latest Megacharger Technology
According to Tesla Charging Business Development representative Zach Lawson, the Bloomington facility represents the company’s first public Megacharger station built around its latest charging hardware.
“Opened the first public Tesla Megacharger in the world in Bloomington, CA. Very soon these two incredible products, the Tesla Semi and Megacharger, will be ubiquitous.”
The MC2 connector is Tesla’s second-generation Megacharger interface for the production Tesla Semi and aligns with the industry’s Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard rather than Tesla’s earlier proprietary connector.
Tesla said the Semi can recharge up to 60% of its battery capacity in approximately 30 minutes at a Megacharger, allowing drivers to add several hundred kilometres of driving range during mandatory rest breaks or while loading and unloading cargo.
Network Expansion Planned
Tesla plans to significantly expand its Megacharger infrastructure across North America.
Previous company plans outlined a network of at least 64 Megacharger locations across the United States, with potential future expansion into Canada.
To date, Tesla has primarily operated private Megacharger facilities serving customer fleets and company operations in California, Texas and Nevada.
