Another electric vehicle, the MG ZS, was the third most popular passenger car in the country with 396 registrations. Tesla’s strong performance in December in New Zealand has been a trend in recent months, particularly following the launch of the Model Y in August. Despite only being available for about half of the month, the electric SUV was the top-selling vehicle in August.
In September, its first full month of availability, the Model Y claimed the title of best-selling vehicle with 1,520 registrations. Along with the Model 3, Tesla was the most popular car brand in New Zealand that month. In December, overall passenger vehicle sales in New Zealand saw a 12.4% year-over-year increase, with a total of 8,505 registrations.
