The highly anticipated Tesla Model 3 Performance, previously known as Project Highland, has been spotted without camouflage, indicating that its launch is nearing.

Last October, Tesla unveiled the new Model 3 but initially released only the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range (LR) variants, leaving out the top-of-the-line Performance variant. Speculation arose among fans about whether the Performance model would be reintroduced or if it had been canceled. Recent leaks, including some from Tesla itself, suggested not only its return but also upgrades over its predecessor.

While test cars have been sighted in California over the last few months, they were incomplete and covered in camouflage, keeping the new design features hidden. However, for the first time, the camouflage has been removed, providing an unobstructed view of the updated design.

Two new Model 3 Performance cars, one in Ultra Red and one in Black, were recently spotted in Valencia, Spain, by user Desmond Wisley (@dessiewisley). The cars were surrounded by Tesla employees for what seemed to be a promotional photo and video shoot, hinting at an imminent official launch.

The new Model 3 Performance features exterior changes such as the Ludicrous badge on the trunk, though it will retain the Performance moniker. Other updates include a new trunk spoiler, rear splitter, front splitter, and new Warp wheels with aero inserts, as previously leaked in the Parts Catalog.

Interior changes appear to be limited to new Sport Seats in white, seen in a test car last week.

With production expected to commence simultaneously at Giga Shanghai and Fremont at the end of March, according to a recent report from China, the launch date is likely in the second quarter. However, Tesla’s ahead-of-schedule unveiling suggests the launch could be sooner.
