The Australian electric vehicle market continues to flourish as Tesla’s Model 3 maintains its position as one of the country’s top-selling electric cars. According to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), Tesla sold 2,671 Model 3 vehicles in February 2023, making it the leading electric vehicle in sales. Despite tough competition from the likes of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hi-Lux, the Model 3 was the third highest-selling car in Australia last month, with 5,598 cars sold year-to-date.
FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber praised the overall increase in vehicle sales, especially given the ongoing supply chain constraints, stating that “This is the best February result since 2019. It is particularly pleasing given global and domestic supply constraints.” The report also indicated a rise in battery electric vehicle sales, with BEVs comprising 6.8% of zero to low-emission car sales and 5,932 sold in February.

Weber also noted that the growing sales of electric vehicles demonstrate that consumers are willing to invest in these environmentally friendly vehicles as long as they are suitable for their needs and budget. As The Driven reported, Tesla sold approximately 3,516 battery electric vehicles last month, accounting for 60% of the BEV market.
As more consumers turn to eco-friendly options, the popularity of electric vehicles is only set to increase. The continued success of Tesla’s Model 3 in Australia highlights the growing interest in sustainable transportation and the importance of providing electric vehicles that meet the needs and lifestyles of consumers.
