Tesla has rolled out an updated version of its popular Model Y in China. The revisions, while minor, aim to enhance the vehicle’s appeal to the Chinese market.
One of the notable changes is the introduction of a new wheel design, as disclosed through Tesla’s official WeChat account. Despite these updates, the starting price for the Model Y in China remains unchanged at 263,900 yuan ($36,146).
This move comes shortly after Tesla unveiled an updated Model 3, boasting a longer driving range, which is manufactured at its Shanghai factory for both the domestic market and export.
In China, the Model Y lineup consists of three versions: the base Model Y with rear-wheel drive, the Model Y Long Range with dual-motor all-wheel drive, and the Model Y Performance with dual-motor all-wheel drive.
For the base Model Y, the range, as measured by the Chinese Long Range Test Cycle (CLTC), has seen a slight improvement, now offering 554 kilometers compared to the previous 545 kilometers, marking an increase of 9 kilometers or 1.65 percent. Acceleration from 0-100 kilometers per hour has also improved, now clocking in at 5.9 seconds, down from the previous 6.9 seconds.
The Model Y Long Range, on the other hand, has seen a boost in its CLTC range, which has increased by 28 kilometers or 4.24 percent to 688 kilometers from the previous 660 kilometers. The starting price for this model remains at RMB 299,900, with a delivery wait time of 6-8 weeks, both unchanged.
For the Model Y Performance, key specifications remain the same, with a CLTC range of 615 kilometers and a starting price of RMB 349,900.
In addition to these technical improvements, Tesla has announced that the Model Y will now come with enhancements such as multi-colored ambient lighting, a new dashboard trim, and new 19-inch wheels.
