In a bid to enhance convenience and alleviate range anxiety for Tesla drivers, a recent update enables them to synchronize their vehicles with the Uber app, scheduling rides based on the remaining battery charge of their electric cars. This integration was initially discovered by Tesla enthusiast and former Uber driver, Sofiaan, who shared the findings with the online community.

Notably, the new feature is contingent upon the user’s authorization. Once granted permission, the Uber app will allocate rides exclusively to Tesla drivers, provided their electric vehicle has sufficient range to complete the requested trip. The app incorporates a small buffer in the estimated range, allowing drivers to locate nearby Supercharger stations if necessary.

Despite its potential benefits, granting Uber access to a vehicle’s data by enabling the “share your vehicle data” option within the app has sparked privacy and data concerns among some Tesla owners. However, for those less acquainted with their Tesla’s range and plagued by range anxiety, this feature serves as a valuable tool.

Uber has been actively striving to enhance the app experience for Tesla drivers, aiming to foster increased adoption of electric vehicles on their platform. While their previous endeavors have yielded mixed results, this new feature could serve as a compelling incentive for EV drivers to join Uber’s ranks and earn extra income.

As of now, it remains uncertain whether similar functionalities will be extended to other electric vehicle models. The implementation of this integration underscores Tesla’s commitment to embracing technological advancements and forging partnerships to cater to the evolving needs of their customers.
