Tesla has postponed the unveiling of its second-generation Roadster by two weeks, citing severe weather conditions expected at the outdoor event. The presentation, originally scheduled for October 1, will now take place on October 15.

Tesla said the delay was necessary because of the predicted conditions and the fact that the event can only be held outdoors. The presentation was reportedly planned for Waco, Texas, around 90 minutes north of Tesla’s headquarters in Austin.

Weather Delays Roadster Presentation

Forecasts for Waco on October 1 indicated warm temperatures, wind and rain. Tesla described the predicted conditions as severe enough to postpone the event, although the company did not provide further details about the specific weather concerns.

The two-week delay comes after Tesla spent years developing the second-generation Roadster, which was first shown as a prototype in November 2017.

Roadster Launch Has Faced Years of Delays

When Tesla introduced the Roadster prototype in 2017, the company said production would begin in 2020. That target was subsequently pushed back several times, leaving the model in development for nearly a decade.

Reservations for the Roadster have been available again since 2022. In Germany, prospective customers have been able to reserve the vehicle with an initial €4,000 deposit, followed by a mandatory €39,000 bank transfer within 10 days.

Tesla has yet to provide final production specifications or a confirmed market launch date for the vehicle.

Roadster Features Still Await Confirmation

The upcoming presentation is expected to provide more details about the production version and what customers can expect from the long-delayed electric sports car.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously discussed ambitious features for the Roadster, including a rocket-assisted system intended to enhance the vehicle’s performance. However, the use of such technology on public roads could face regulatory and approval requirements, particularly in the European Union.

For now, the October 15 event is expected to be the next opportunity for Tesla to clarify the Roadster’s specifications, production plans and availability.
