A recent sighting of a Tesla Cybertruck sporting both the base aero wheel covers and Cybertruck-specific Goodyear AT tyres has stirred speculation about potential changes to the vehicle’s wheel cover design.
This development comes on the heels of reports highlighting issues with the Cybertruck’s original wheel covers, which were reportedly causing damage to tyre sidewalls. In response, Tesla halted shipments of the Cyber wheel covers to customers and listed the item as “out of stock” on its accessory store.

A video shared by Nic Cruz Patane on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) showcased a Cybertruck equipped with what appears to be the base aero wheel covers paired with 20-inch rims, indicated by the presence of Goodyear tyres. This unconventional pairing suggests that Tesla may be considering the use of base wheel covers as a temporary solution to address the problems with the Cyber wheel covers.

While Tesla has not officially confirmed this change, using the smaller base aero wheel covers could potentially mitigate the tyre sidewall damage issue. Unlike the previous design, which overlapped with the tyre sidewall, the base covers fit neatly within the wheel’s profile, reducing the risk of damage. However, the base covers lack the tabs that match the recesses in the Goodyear tyres designed for the Cybertruck, creating an aesthetic mismatch.
It remains to be seen whether Tesla will adopt the base wheel covers as a temporary fix for the Cybertruck’s wheel cover woes. The sighting of the Cybertruck with the base covers suggests that Tesla is exploring alternative solutions to address the issue.
