In a recent showdown, Tesla’s Cybertruck faced off against Ford’s high-performance pickup, the F-150 Raptor, in a drag race, unveiling some noteworthy results.
Since its debut in 2019, Tesla has positioned the Cybertruck as a direct competitor to the Ford F-150, a dominant force in the crucial US pickup truck market. Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, emphasized the aim to challenge the market leader and shared a viral video showcasing a tug of war between the Cybertruck and the F-150.
Interestingly, the production version of the Cybertruck did not revisit this competition at its launch. However, select media outlets were granted access to conduct various tests at Gigafactory Texas, where Carwow orchestrated a drag race pitting the Cybertruck against a Ford F-150 Raptor.
The F-150 Raptor, known as Ford’s performance-oriented iteration of the popular F-150 pickup, was chosen to face off against the Cybertruck’s tri-motor variant, often referred to as the Cyberbeast.
Unlike the previous tug of war, this time the comparison focused on a drag race. The results were decisive, with the Cybertruck outpacing the Raptor consistently, whether with or without a rolling start.
Impressively, the Cybertruck completed the quarter-mile in a remarkable 11.2 seconds, showcasing its formidable speed in the context of pickup trucks.
This face-off provides an intriguing perspective on the performance capabilities of electric vehicles in the pickup truck segment, raising questions about the potential impact on the traditional dominance of internal combustion engine-powered trucks.
