The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the Tesla Cybertruck its highest safety distinction, naming it a Top Safety Pick+ for 2026.
To qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ designation, vehicles must achieve top ratings across multiple crashworthiness categories, as well as strong performance in pedestrian crash prevention and headlight evaluations.

The Cybertruck received the highest possible ratings in the small-overlap front, updated side and moderate-overlap front crash tests. According to the institute, improvements introduced through a mid-year structural update to the vehicle’s front underbody and footwell contributed to enhanced occupant protection in front-side impacts.
The electric pickup also achieved a “good” rating in pedestrian crash prevention, successfully avoiding or mitigating collisions involving both adult and child dummies in daytime and nighttime testing scenarios.
In addition, the Cybertruck met the highest standards for headlight performance. Its LED lightbar and low-beam system were assessed as providing strong road visibility while minimizing glare for oncoming drivers.

The 2026 rating sets the Cybertruck apart within its segment. It was the only pickup truck to receive the Top Safety Pick+ designation this year, while several competing models from Ford Motor, Dodge and GMC did not qualify for either Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ awards.
The recognition comes as automakers continue to focus on safety performance alongside electrification, with testing standards becoming increasingly stringent across global markets.
