Tesla saw a significant increase in sales of its China-made vehicles in March as production and deliveries stabilized following the Chinese New Year holiday, data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed on Wednesday.
Tesla China delivered 78,828 vehicles last month, including those sold domestically and those exported, marking a 156.87% surge from February’s 30,688 units. However, the figure represented an 11.49% decline from 89,064 units in March 2023.

In the first quarter, Tesla China sold a total of 172,754 vehicles, reflecting a 21.79% decrease from 220,876 units in the same period last year and a 28.29% drop from the fourth quarter’s 240,902 units.
Tesla’s Shanghai facility, which produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, serves both local customers and international markets. Figures detailing domestic deliveries and exports from the plant in March have yet to be disclosed.

Production activity in China is typically affected by the Lunar New Year holiday, which took place from January 28 to February 4 this year. In 2023, the holiday occurred later, from February 10 to 17, impacting delivery patterns across the two years.
Tesla launched an updated five-seat Model Y in China on January 10, with deliveries starting on February 26. The initial “Launch Series” variants, which included additional benefits, were available until February 28, after which the standard version was introduced at the same price point.

On March 18, Tesla raised the price of the Model Y Long Range variant by RMB 10,000 ($1,380), a 3.29% increase to RMB 313,500. The base rear-wheel-drive version remained unchanged at RMB 263,500.
