Tesla China Prioritizes International Orders with Second-Quarter Vehicle Delivery Push

Tesla China has reportedly begun its push for vehicle deliveries in the second quarter, with a focus on exporting large batches of electric vehicles to foreign territories in the first half of the quarter. A drone operator, who has been documenting the development of Tesla China’s facilities for years, recently captured aerial footage showing numerous Tesla vehicles waiting to be exported at Shanghai Port. Interestingly, some of the vehicles appear to be right-hand drive models.

Giga Shanghai, which serves as Tesla’s primary vehicle export hub, is critical to the company’s global operations. Typically, Tesla China allocates Giga Shanghai’s production to international orders during the first half of each quarter before shifting to domestic orders in the latter half. This system enables Tesla to cater to both foreign and domestic markets.

A recent video captured by the drone operator shows the car carrier ship Grand Champion docking at the Shanghai Port. This ship is expected to transport Giga Shanghai-made vehicles to foreign territories. The footage also reveals that Giga Shanghai is currently installing solar panels on its roof, which is in line with Tesla’s focus on sustainability.

Tesla’s Q1 2023 vehicle delivery and production report revealed that the automaker delivered a total of 422,875 vehicles, with Giga Shanghai contributing to approximately 54% of the worldwide deliveries during the first quarter. Given Tesla’s goal of delivering 1.8 million vehicles this year, Tesla China will need to ensure that it plays its role in the company’s overall operations perfectly.

Overall, Tesla’s continued focus on vehicle exports and sustainability highlights the company’s commitment to expanding its global reach while reducing its carbon footprint. As Tesla China ramps up its efforts in the second quarter, it will be interesting to see how the company’s international and domestic markets respond to its efforts.
