Ford became the pioneer automaker to adopt the North American Charging Standard and announce its EVs’ integration with Tesla’s Supercharger network. Following this trailblazing decision, nearly every major automaker has since followed suit, marking a substantial industry shift in less than a year.
Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, recently provided an update on this transformative journey. In a post on Elon Musk’s social platform, he revealed that specific owners of Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning models in the United States and Canada would soon have the opportunity to reserve a complimentary charging adapter. This adapter would facilitate the charging of their vehicles at Supercharger stations, as well as other stations utilizing a Tesla connector.

Farley emphasized that these complimentary adapters are a gesture of gratitude towards Ford’s customers, aiming to enhance the overall charging experience and make it more convenient. Access to Superchargers for Ford owners is expected to commence this spring, with the company planning to fully embrace the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port by 2025, eliminating the need for adapters.
Reservations for these adapters are scheduled to open this spring, with eligibility criteria yet to be disclosed. This initiative is likely to benefit both existing Ford EV owners and prospective buyers.
