Tesla is expanding its presence in California by setting up a new engineering headquarters in Palo Alto. CEO Elon Musk and California Governor Gavin Newsom made the announcement on Tuesday, more than a year after Tesla moved its corporate headquarters to Austin, Texas.

The new headquarters will be located at 1501 Page Mill Road, and it is expected to house a significant number of employees who will focus on engineering projects. However, the exact number of employees who will be based there and when the move will happen are yet to be confirmed.

Tesla has been using the 325,000 square foot office space for a while, and the sightings of its Semi and Cybertruck vehicles around the area suggest that the company has been using the space for research and development purposes. The recruitment campaign held by Tesla last month also targeted engineers specializing in artificial intelligence.

According to the company’s careers website, Tesla is currently hiring for hundreds of positions in engineering and information technology, as well as other areas like supply chain, charging, energy, solar, and storage. This suggests that the company is gearing up for an expansion in its engineering capabilities.

Despite the expansion in California, Tesla has no plans to move its corporate headquarters out of Austin, Texas. Musk has described the company as “kind of a dual-headquartered company” with a presence in both Texas and California.

Overall, Tesla’s move to establish a new engineering headquarters in Palo Alto shows its continued commitment to innovation and development in the automotive industry. With its focus on electric and autonomous vehicles, Tesla is set to remain a major player in the industry for years to come.
