Tesla has introduced a new feature to the Cybertruck aimed at enhancing towing safety and preventing long-term damage from overloaded cargo. The update, included in software version 2025.26, adds a “Smart Warning System” that alerts drivers when the rear axle load exceeds the recommended limit.

The Cybertruck, launched in late 2023, is Tesla’s first vehicle designed for heavy-duty towing, with Dual and Tri Motor All-Wheel-Drive variants offering a towing capacity of up to 11,000 pounds. However, until now, the vehicle did not provide a system to notify drivers when they were approaching or exceeding that threshold.

According to Not a Tesla App, the Smart Warning System notifies drivers with a message:
“Rear axle load exceeds recommended limit. Remove cargo or rebalance trailer to prevent damage.”
This allows owners to take immediate corrective action—either by reducing the load or redistributing weight more evenly—potentially preventing damage to the vehicle’s suspension or drivetrain.

While Tesla has not officially disclosed how the system determines axle load, it is likely that the feature uses data from the Cybertruck’s air suspension system to detect excess stress. By utilizing over-the-air software updates, Tesla continues to enhance vehicle capabilities remotely, giving its fleet a key advantage over vehicles that lack such connectivity.

The new feature reflects Tesla’s ongoing strategy of improving vehicle performance and safety through software innovation, helping ensure that even heavy-duty use cases like towing are supported with intelligent safeguards.
