Tesla has announced a significant milestone, revealing that it has manufactured 50 million 4680 battery cells at its Giga Texas plant in Austin. The company made the announcement through a post on X, showcasing a collage of team members at Giga Texas who contributed to this achievement.
Production of Tesla’s 4680 battery cells has ramped up considerably, supporting the manufacturing of electric vehicles at Giga Texas and other Tesla factories. Over the past year, Tesla has produced approximately 40 million battery cells, equating to nearly a million cells per week.

Tesla’s focus on the 4680 cell underscores its importance in the company’s future EV production plans. This achievement marks a significant progression from a year ago when Tesla announced the production of 10 million cells at Giga Texas in June 2023.
While Tesla anticipates modest year-over-year vehicle production growth in 2024, it aims to transition out of this phase by producing vehicles equipped with the next-generation platform, starting with the Tesla Robotaxi. CEO Elon Musk has announced that the vehicle will be unveiled on August 8.
During Tesla’s Q1 Earnings Call, the company reported that its 4680 battery ramp had progressed successfully in the first three months of the year. Additionally, the cell’s production ramp is ahead of the Cybertruck ramp, leading to cost reductions due to increased production efficiency.
