Tailwind, a company specializing in garage door controllers, has introduced a new app for Android Auto that allows drivers to control their garage doors directly from their vehicles. This development comes as Android Auto’s app store expands with a variety of services, offering users a wider range of functionalities.
The Tailwind app, now available on the Play Store, enables users to control up to three garage doors and provides real-time information about their status. Operating the app is a straightforward process: users simply open the app and press a single button to either open or close their garage doors. Although there have been reports of slight delays in the app’s response time, it has been found to be a practical and useful addition.
The benefits of the Tailwind app extend beyond convenience for households with multiple vehicles. By being able to check the status of their garage doors remotely, users can ensure that they are securely closed, even if they suddenly remember an oversight while on their way to work.
Moreover, the app’s capabilities extend beyond proximity, allowing users to open or close their garage doors from miles away. This feature proves advantageous when there is a need to operate the door remotely, such as closing it while away from home or granting access to someone else. Ultimately, the app aims to streamline the user experience and eliminate any unnecessary hurdles associated with traditional garage door openers.
While the app itself is free, it is currently only available as part of the Tailwind smart controller kit, which costs $79.99. Existing Tailwind controller owners will receive the app as a free update. This new addition to Android Auto joins the ranks of other apps, including Samsung SmartThings’ smart home apps, Weather & Radar, Zoom, and Webex, expanding the functionality of the infotainment system beyond basic navigation and media applications.
