BMW has just announced a partnership with T-Mobile to launch the first 5G-connected car in the United States.

With this collaboration, the new BMW iX and i4 2022 models can work with 5G networks. With this capability, car owners can use their car as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

To get these features car owners must subscribe for $ 20 per month. Car owners will get unlimited data and voice calls. In addition to unlimited data in the US, customers will also get 200MB of data roaming.

The new BMW models have an eSIM feature that saves car owners from the hassle of a small SIM card to connect to the T-Mobile network.

BMW cars also have a feature that can bring T-Mobile’s 5G services to other vehicles using a BMW account. So if consumers rent BMW cars elsewhere that are compatible with 5G, they will still be able to connect to the T-Mobile internet.

With T-Mobile’s 5G network capabilities, users can connect up to 10 devices to your car at once.

T-Mobile and BMW aren’t the only carriers and car companies looking to unify 5G and auto networks. Similar collaborations occur between Audi and Verizon and GM with AT&T.

One thing is for sure in the near future we will almost certainly see more announcements of 5G compatible vehicles.
