India has announced plans to increase its electric bus fleet to 5,000 units nationwide. Switch Mobility and Chalo, India’s most prominent transport technology company, officially entered into a partnership to distribute 5,000 electric buses to improve public transport in the country.
In addition, the company also wants to realize environmentally friendly transportation and improve the reliability of public transportation.
Chalo Co-Founder & CEO Mohit Dubey noted that around 48 percent of daily transport users in India use buses, but the country only has three buses for every 10,000 people.
Meanwhile, Switch Mobility India CEO Mahesh Babu explained how important this opportunity is for India and Switch.
“India’s changing mobility landscape is significantly changing the way people travel within cities. Given our vision to accelerate the adoption of clean and sustainable electric transport solutions, we are pleased to partner with Chalo for the first partnership in this area,” he said.
We aim to transform urban mobility in the country by leveraging Chalo’s strong customer connections and operational expertise along with our technologically advanced electric vehicle products,” continued Mahesh Babu.
The plan is that Switch will soon start distributing its new EiV12 electric bus across India and they hope to use it for intercity, inner-city and even school transportation.
This bus has a capacity of up to 45 people, a range of 300 kilometers (186 miles), and can be fully charged in one and a half hours.
