Subaru’s long-awaited performance version of its electric crossover, the Solterra STI, may be set to debut in 2025, according to new reports from Japan. This performance-focused variant, part of a mid-lifecycle update for the electric vehicle (EV), will likely prioritize enhanced handling over significant horsepower gains.
The concept of a performance-oriented Solterra has been circulating for some time, with Subaru unveiling an STI concept alongside the STI E-RA study at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. However, details regarding the production model remained unclear. Although rumors initially suggested the car could launch in the summer of 2024, the timeline now appears to have shifted.
Japanese outlet Best Car reports that the Solterra STI is expected to arrive in 2025, with upgrades primarily focusing on improving the vehicle’s e-TNGA platform, which underpins the standard Solterra. While power and torque may see some increase through software tuning, a significant boost in horsepower is not anticipated. Instead, the vehicle is expected to feature improved handling capabilities, delivering a more engaging driving experience. Additionally, sportier design elements, such as a sharper body kit and distinctive wheels, will likely complement its performance-focused enhancements.
Subaru’s electric counterpart, the Toyota bZ4x, is also expected to receive a facelift in 2025, raising questions about whether Toyota will introduce a sportier version of the bZ4x. The company has previously hinted at the possibility of a more powerful variant, though details remain scarce.
