Subaru has introduced the Subaru STI E-RA concept electric car technology at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022 (14/1).

When the teaser was revealed, we suspected that the Subaru concept electric car would be the successor to the Subaru WRX STI sports car.

It turns out that the Subaru STI E-RA is a concept electric racing car that will be used for the new Subaru Tecnica International (STI) project.

The project is called the STI E-RA Challenge Project with the main goal of gathering racing experience and technology in the era of carbon neutrality.

In addition, one of the goals for the development of the STI E-RA is to break the time record at the Nurburgring in 2023. Subaru targets the STI E-RA for one lap at the Nurburgring in 400 seconds or 6 minutes 40 seconds.

However, it is possible that the STI E-RA will catch up with the Nurburgring record achieved by the Volkswagen ID.R, which is 6 minutes 5 seconds 336 milliseconds.

Looking at its appearance, the STI E-RA resembles a Le Mans Hypercar race car although Subaru says it is prepared for FIA E-GT regulation.

This can be seen from the curve of the aerodynamic body, the cockpit that is shaped like a helmet, and the large wings designed for downforce.

The STI E-RA has nothing in common with the Subaru street car except for the headlights that carry the C-Shape design. In terms of power, the STI E-RA is said to have four all-wheel-drive electric motors that produce a combined power of 800 kW or 1,088 hp.

When compared to the two ID.R electric motors, the four STI E-RA electric motors are more powerful at 300 kW or 408 hp. Electric power for the STI E-RA motor is supplied from a Lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 60 kWh.

The STI E-RA electric motor was developed by Yamaha to provide large torque and be able to manage wheel torque or torque vectoring.
