An electric car with a high performance orientation will come from Subaru, which is scheduled to take the floor at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. Still a concept, this electric car is said to mark the electric era of Subaru’s performance division, namely STI. Even the name that has been revealed signifies the start of this new “era”, namely the STI E-RA Concept.
The debut of the STI E-RA Concept will be accompanied by the introduction of the STI Performance version of the concept for several other models. Mentioned these models include the WRX S4, Levorg, and the latest BRZ. Even this information has been accompanied by a teaser photo of the concept referred to above.
Featuring an aggressive front fascia, the STI E-RA Concept is described as “a motorsport vehicle study model for the carbon neutral era”. Therefore, it is not certain that this concept will be brought to the production line in the near future. But most likely this concept will be a prototype electric-powered race car for the basis of technology development from Subaru.
In addition, the teaser also hints at the introduction of new design elements that will be applied to the upcoming Subaru model. For example, the LED headlights are shaped like C which are positioned quite low in the fender area. Then the bonnet with double ventilation, the STI logo lights up on the grille, then the front bumper with a large splitter.
Although there is no information about the powertrain specifications, we know that this car will use a pure electric motor. Future electric motorsport concepts will be one of Subaru’s highlights at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. But as noted above, there will be the debut of several concept models with the “STI Performance” label as well.
The first concept from the STI Performance line is the WRX S4 which gets an aerodynamic upgrade. You can see bright orange highlights on the exterior, such as the outside mirrors, front-rear lip spoiler, and side skirts as well. This is the dress up version and the first upgrade of the new generation WRX, introduced this year. Compared to the WRX S4 STI Sport R which has been sold in Japan, it looks more aggressive and sporty, but it is not clear whether there is a performance upgrade as well.
Then followed by the Levorg STI Performance concept, which is said to be based on the Levorg STI Sport R variant. Subaru will present red accents on the aerodynamic components, sports exhaust, and various changes that increase the usability of this fast station wagon. Then the third model is the BRZ STI Performance, which will get a number of performance upgrades from the STI.
Not to be missed, Subaru will also showcase their racing car that won the Super GT category, namely the 2021 BRZ GT300. His appearance will be accompanied by Subaru’s announcement about its racing team for 2022. Even lucky visitors in Tokyo, will have the opportunity to win the WRX STI Sport R EX to take home as a gift.
