Stellantis overtakes Tesla electric vehicle sales in Europe in H1

The first half of 2022 was sensationally passed by Stellantis because their electric car sales figures in Europe managed to beat Tesla.

Stellantis is now at number 2 with electric car sales reaching 105,413 electric cars. While Tesla is below it with 78,277 units.

Both still lose to Volkswagen, which dominates the electric car market in Europe with a record 116,307 sales in the first half. Stellantis is now ready to challenge VW and take the No.1 position next year

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said, “We are fighting for the top spot in terms of electric car sales in the European market.”

Stellantis Group’s top sales were led by the electric Fiat 500, which was the best-selling electric car in Italy and Germany in the second quarter of 2022. In the first half of this year, Stellantis sold 32,315 small cars, an increase of 72 percent.

Meanwhile, the Peugeot e-208 sold 21,918 units, or 11 percent more than in the first half of last year. This model is the best-selling electric hatchback in France. Meanwhile, the Opel Corsa-e twin, also sold well with 13,380 units.

Tesla’s sales figures fell to their lowest level in two years, but that was largely due to factory shutdowns, not a lack of interest in its vehicles.

Now that Covid restrictions have been largely lifted in China, US automakers are expected to bounce back in the second half of 2022.

Stellantis is predicted to be stronger in the second quarter of this year. With mainstream electric cars being the mainstay, such as the Peugeot 308 and 3008, and the upcoming Opel Astra.
