Stellantis (STLA.MI) revealed plans to invest €2 billion in its Italian factories by 2025, aiming to expand its portfolio of electric and hybrid vehicles while keeping options open for the development of the Automotive Cells Company (ACC) Gigafactory.

During a roundtable at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, Stellantis detailed specific production plans across its facilities. The Pomigliano plant will begin manufacturing two models based on the STLA-Small platform in 2028. Production of the Fiat Panda, initially slated to end in 2027, has been extended to 2030. Meanwhile, Turin’s Mirafiori plant will serve as the production hub for the hybrid and next-generation electric Fiat 500, though production has faced interruptions due to weak demand.

In Cassino, the automaker plans to launch three models on the STLA-Large platform, including hybrid and electric versions of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio in 2025 and the Giulia in 2026. Melfi will focus on models using the STLA-Medium platform, with seven new vehicles, including the DS n°8 electric SUV coupé, Lancia’s Gamma flagship, the DS7, and the Jeep Compass, set for production starting in 2024.

The Atessa plant will take on a central role in Stellantis’ strategy, beginning production of a new large van in 2027. Modena will focus on high-end vehicles under its “Made in Italy” initiative, collaborating with suppliers to prioritize innovation and sustainability.

Stellantis reaffirmed its financial commitment to ACC, a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz and TotalEnergies, but acknowledged that Italy’s withdrawal of EU funds for the Termoli Gigafactory poses challenges. Construction at Termoli and Kaiserslautern is currently paused as ACC transitions to cost-effective battery technologies. The company intends to clarify its plans for these sites by late 2024 or early 2025.
