Specialized Unveils Globe Haul LT: A Powerful Electric Cargo Bike

Specialized, a player in the bicycle industry, has introduced the Globe Haul LT, an electric cargo bike that falls under its Globe e-bike subsidiary. This long-tail electric bicycle promises extended range and enhanced cargo-carrying capabilities when compared to its predecessor, the Haul ST, which was initially revealed in March 2023. As with all of Specialized’s products, the Globe Haul LT boasts cutting-edge technology supported by extensive research and development. Let’s delve into the features that make this electric cargo bike stand out.

Starting with its frame, the Globe Haul LT showcases a long-tail design, featuring an extended rear section designed to accommodate a substantial cargo rack. Impressively, it boasts a payload capacity of up to 200 kilograms, making it a robust choice for transporting substantial loads.

In contrast to the Haul ST, the LT version incorporates a MIK-compatible rear rack that is twice as long, measuring a substantial 31 inches (78 centimeters). This elongated design allows the new Haul LT to accommodate up to six panniers and comfortably transport three passengers. Specialized asserts that the Haul LT is a compelling alternative to daily car usage, given its remarkable cargo-carrying capabilities.

The heart of the Globe Haul LT is its 700-watt rear-hub motor, offering five assist settings controlled by a handlebar remote (with an optional throttle available). Specialized claims that this powerful motor is more than capable of effortlessly carrying both the rider and substantial cargo up steep inclines. Additionally, the motor propels the Globe Haul LT to an impressive top speed of 28 miles per hour (45 kilometers per hour). Powering the bike is a detachable Globe 772-Watt-hour battery, providing an estimated range of around 60 miles (100 kilometers). The integrated front and rear lights, boasting outputs of 1,500 lumens and 50 lumens respectively, are powered by the same battery source.

Complementing the punchy electric motor is a nine-speed gearbox equipped with Microshift shifters, an 11-36-tooth SunRace cassette, and a KMC chain. The bike also incorporates Tektro HD535 four-piston caliper hydraulic disc brakes with eight-inch (203-millimeter) rotors, ensuring reliable and potent stopping power. Specialized has included full-length mudguards and an extra-wide kickstand for added stability when parking and loading items.

At present, the Globe Haul LT is exclusively available in the United States market with a price tag of $3,500. Specialized has expressed plans to introduce the bike to a global audience in the future. However, it is crucial to note that the bike’s performance specifications may be adjusted to align with different e-bike regulations in various countries. For example, many European countries mandate that e-bikes have nominal power outputs not exceeding 250 watts to be ridden without a license.
