Solid Power has just announced it will send a pre-production solid-state battery to be tested by BMW and Ford at the end of this year.

Solid Power itself is a company from Colorado that develops a solid-state battery for electric vehicles. The solid-state battery itself is expected to be a game changer to make electric vehicles more affordable.

Doug Campbell, Head of Executive and Co-Founder Solid Power, said his company had established a pilot production line to be tested by the manufacturing of electric vehicles. In addition, companies are also looking for partners to produce solid-state batteries no later than 2026.

One of the most potential partners according to Campbell is a Korean SK innovation that built a battery joint venture along with Ford on Tennessee and Kentucky.

Regarding the developed solid-state battery, Campbell refuses to provide specific details.

Solid-state batteries have sulfide-based solid-state electrolytes, media that through lithium ions flow between positive and negative electrodes during charging and release.

Campbell says solid powe cells have the potential to hold more energy-so that it provides a longer range for electric vehicles and the cost is cheaper than conventional lithium-ion batteries.
