Polish bus manufacturer Solaris has received an order for 81 electric buses from VR Sverige AB, to be deployed in the Stockholm region starting in the second quarter of 2026, the company said on Friday.
The order involves the three-axle Urbino 15 LE electric model, designed for suburban and regional routes. The vehicles will be used under the management of VR Sverige AB, a subsidiary of Finland’s VR Group and one of Sweden’s key public transport operators.

This latest contract follows earlier collaborations between Solaris and VR Sverige and further expands Solaris’ presence in Sweden, where more than 700 of its buses—over 300 of them battery-electric—are currently in operation.
The Urbino 15 LE electric, introduced in 2020, was developed with the Scandinavian market in mind, where demand for 15-metre buses is higher compared to other regions, where 12- and 18-metre versions are more common. All units in the new order will be homologated in Class II, indicating their use on intercity and metropolitan routes.

Each bus will be equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity exceeding 550 kWh, and a central traction motor consistent with Solaris’ standard configuration for this model. Additional features include air-conditioning, driver assistance systems, CCTV, fire detection and suppression in the drive unit, and an ergonomic driver’s cabin.
Last week, Solaris announced a separate order for 89 Urbino 15 LE electric buses from Swedish operator Nobina.

“This order is a significant milestone for us,” said Olivier Michard, Solaris Management Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “We are proud to support the development of sustainable public transport in Sweden and to continue our cooperation with VR Sverige AB.”
