Smatrics EnBW has extended its fast-charging network beyond Austria, opening two new high-power charging sites in northern Italy as part of its cross-border expansion strategy.

The new locations are situated in Trezzo sull’Adda and Gruaro, each offering 16 charging points for passenger vehicles. The partially covered charging parks provide up to 400 kW of charging capacity and are designed to accommodate future expansion.

The Trezzo sull’Adda site is located along the A4 Turin–Trieste motorway, a major route connecting the Milan metropolitan area with Lake Garda. A second charging park has been opened in Gruaro, positioned at the junction of the A4 Turin–Trieste and A28 Portogruaro–Conegliano motorways. From Austria, Trezzo sull’Adda is approximately a four-hour drive from Innsbruck, while Gruaro can be reached from Villach in around two hours.

Both sites are equipped with high-power chargers supplied by Alpitronic and include on-site amenities such as refreshment facilities and digital display boards showing daily updated ad-hoc pricing. Accessible charging bays are also available. The Gruaro location features an additional dedicated bay designed for vehicles towing trailers or caravans.

Smatrics EnBW said: “The charging parks are designed so that additional charging points can be easily added in the future if required.”

Chief Executive Thomas Landsbek said the expansion reflects the growing importance of international charging infrastructure. “E-mobility does not stop at national borders. The new charging parks in Trezzo sull’Adda and Gruaro consolidate SMATRICS EnBW’s existing network in northern Italy and represent yet another milestone for sustainable, cross-border mobility,” he said.

The company said the new sites are intended to support commuter and long-distance travel between Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland.
