Smart #5 Electric SUV Wins Multiple Global Awards In First Year On Market
Mid-Size Model Earns Safety, Design And Car-Of-The-Year Honors Across Europe And Asia
STUTTGART, Feb 13 — The all-electric smart #5 sport utility vehicle has received multiple international awards during its first year on sale, including Norway’s Car of the Year 2026 and top safety recognition from Euro NCAP, the brand said.
The mid-size SUV secured Euro NCAP’s “Best in Class” Large SUV title for 2025 after achieving the highest overall score in its category, alongside a five-star safety rating. The vehicle also earned distinctions in design competitions and regional automotive awards across Europe and Asia.
Additional honors include Family Electric SUV of the Year 2026 from What Car? in the United Kingdom, runner-up in Swiss Car of the Year 2026 and several awards in Hong Kong, including UpCar Grand Ten 2025 and Best Urban SUV 2026 from Car1.hk. The model also received two Red Dot Design Awards covering product design and user interface.
Built on an 800-volt electric platform, the smart #5 delivers up to 475 kW of power and a WLTP driving range of up to 590 km (367 miles). The architecture supports rapid charging and positions the vehicle in the growing premium electric SUV segment.
Mercedes-Benz’s global design team developed the vehicle’s styling, which features frameless doors, a panoramic halo roof and distinctive lighting elements. Inside, the cabin includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and dual 13-inch OLED displays for driver and passenger functions, powered by an AMD V2000 chipset.
Cargo capacity is rated at 630 liters, reflecting the model’s focus on family-oriented usability as well as urban driving.
Smart, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz AG and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, has launched the #5 in 17 European markets as well as China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Morocco. The company said additional markets will follow in 2026, with availability in the United Arab Emirates beginning Feb. 10.
The brand, which now operates in about 40 countries and regions, is expanding its lineup beyond compact city cars as it seeks to compete in larger electric vehicle segments.
