The Singapore Police Force will begin using electric vehicles for the first time with the deployment of 19 Polestar 2 units scheduled for the second half of 2025. The introduction of the EV fleet marks a significant step in the country’s broader efforts to adopt sustainable transportation within public sector operations.
The dual motor, all-wheel-drive Polestar 2 models were selected through a public tender process in 2023, with Wearnes Automotive, Polestar’s local distributor, securing the contract with a winning bid of S$3.8 million (approximately €2.5 million). Competing bids included models such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Seal, and BMW i4 and iX1.

The electric patrol cars will be primarily used by the Traffic Police to monitor motorways, assist motorists, and enforce traffic regulations. The vehicles meet and exceed the tender’s technical requirements, featuring an 82 kWh battery capable of approximately 470 kilometres of range and acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 4.5 seconds.
Modifications specific to police use include run-flat tyres, solid metal roofs, and a steel partition between the front and rear seats. Additional operational enhancements include reinforced upholstery, disabled online connectivity for security, roof-mounted emergency lights, and LED message boards. The EVs also sport Battenburg-style orange-blue police markings.

To support the new fleet, 120 kW charging infrastructure will be installed at the Traffic Police headquarters. The contract includes a decade-long maintenance agreement to ensure operational readiness throughout the vehicles’ service life. The initiative positions the Singapore Police Force as the first agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs to incorporate electric vehicles into its operations.
