German multinational Siemens is set to gradually increase its fleet with the addition of up to 1,000 Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicles, according to an announcement by Volkswagen.

The electric cars will be leased by Siemens through Volkswagen Financial Services, marking a continuation of their longstanding partnership as Siemens aims to transition its entire fleet to electric vehicles by 2030.

While the specific timetable for the introduction of the 1,000 VW ID.4 units was not provided in Volkswagen’s statement, Achim Schaible, Chairman and Spokesman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Germany, emphasized the significance of fleet customer business for Volkswagen. He expressed pleasure in continuing the trusted cooperation with Siemens as both companies navigate the era of electromobility.

Siemens, in alignment with its climate goals and commitment to sustainable fleet management under its DEGREE framework, aims to fully electrify its fleet by 2030. Stefan Kurz, Head of Global Fleet Management at Siemens, cited the Volkswagen ID.4’s appealing attributes, including range, charging speed, trunk volume, and price, as factors influencing the company’s choice for its expanding electric vehicle fleet.

The recently updated VW ID.4 features the APP550 motor, providing 210 kW of power and 545 Nm of maximum torque. The permanent magnet synchronous motor is reported to be significantly more efficient than its predecessor, offering an improved range compared to the previous 150-kW version.
