Setra has entered its MultiClass S 515 LE hybrid intercity bus in the Bus Euro Test 2026 in Hungary, showcasing a model that combines a conventional diesel powertrain with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
The entry highlights ongoing demand among European bus operators for hybrid solutions as fleets gradually transition toward fully electric transport. The S 515 LE is one of four new body variants introduced as part of Setra’s expanded MultiClass range.
Mild Hybrid System Supports Efficiency
The vehicle is powered by a 260 kW OM 936 six-cylinder diesel engine paired with a ZF Ecolife 2 six-speed automatic transmission. The 7.7-liter engine produces up to 1,400 Nm of torque at 1,200 rpm.
Setra said the integrated 48-volt mild hybrid system provides additional power during vehicle launch and acceleration, helping to improve overall efficiency and reduce fuel consumption in daily intercity operations.
Passenger-Focused Interior Configuration
The MultiClass S 515 LE can accommodate up to 45 passengers and is equipped with Setra Transit seats featuring two-point seatbelts.
The manufacturer said each double seat includes dual USB charging sockets for passenger convenience. The bus also features a dedicated wheelchair area with a securing system positioned opposite the central passenger door to improve accessibility.
Advanced Safety and Driver Assistance Features
The bus is equipped with a range of driver assistance and safety technologies, including Preventive Brake Assist 2, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist and a 360-degree camera system.
Additional safety systems include the Electronic Stability Program, Brake Assist, lane-keeping support and tyre pressure monitoring. The vehicle also incorporates an integrated underride guard as part of its safety architecture.
Euro VI Compliance and Passenger Comfort
Measuring 12,210 mm in length, the S 515 LE complies with the Euro VI E emissions standard. Passenger comfort is supported by a roof-mounted EvoCool Basic air-conditioning system equipped with an active antiviral filter.
The bus also includes an automatic fire suppression system that continuously monitors both the engine compartment and auxiliary heater installation, providing additional protection in the event of a fire-related incident.
