Schneider, a prominent player in the freight industry, has successfully deployed all 50 battery-electric Freightliner eCascadia trucks as part of the Joint Electric Truck Scaling Initiative (JETSI) project. This accomplishment positions Schneider among the largest zero-emission Class 8 fleet operators in the United States. The JETSI project, a collaborative effort, aims to deploy a total of 100 Class 8 battery-electric trucks in Southern California.

Operational through Schneider’s Southern California intermodal operations center in South El Monte, California, the deployed trucks primarily undertake regional haul routes in the Los Angeles and Inland Empire region, covering distances under 200 miles. The transition to these electric vehicles is anticipated to yield more than 2.55 tonnes of weighted criteria pollutant reductions.

The project’s inception dates back to September 2021, with Schneider’s commitment to adding 50 Freightliner eCascadia electric trucks to its Southern California fleet, a goal now realized with the successful deployment. Subsequently, in December 2022, Schneider placed an additional order for electric trucks from Daimler Truck, bringing the total number of ordered electric trucks to 92.

California Air Resources Board Chair Liane Randolph commended Schneider’s achievement, stating, “Schneider’s successful deployment of 50 new zero-emissions trucks that are transporting goods across Southern California is an example of how companies are stepping up to achieve a clean air future.”
