Samsung SDI has begun the comprehensive shipment of its solid-state battery, commonly referred to as the “dream battery.” The disclosure was made during a routine performance report meeting on January 30 by Park Jong-sun, Vice President of Samsung SDI’s Large Business Division.
The company confirmed the commencement of sample shipments from its solid-state battery pilot line (S-line) during the fourth quarter of the previous year.
Distinguished by its utilization of a solid electrolyte, the solid-state battery offers a lower risk of fire compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. Samsung SDI initiated sample production at its Suwon research center in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, in the second half of the preceding year, showcasing a commitment to harnessing the safety benefits associated with this emerging battery technology.
In addition to advancing the solid-state battery, Samsung SDI is commencing mass production of its P6 product in the Americas, featuring more than a 10% increase in energy density compared to the existing P5 products.
The company is strategically diversifying its product portfolio to meet evolving market demands, introducing innovative offerings such as the Samsung Battery Box and preparing Lithium Iron Phosphate products.
