Like other manufacturers that are starting to switch to electric vehicles, Rolls-Royce will debut its first electric car, the Spectre in 2023.
“This is the start of a bold new chapter for our brand, our amazing clients and the luxury industry. For this reason, I believe the Spectre is the most perfect product Rolls-Royce has ever produced,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars on the official Rolls-Royce website.
The company also says that Spectreis the embodiment of prophecies fulfilled, promises kept and work done.
In 1900, Rolls-Royce co-founder Charles Rolls predicted an electric future for automobiles. After acquiring an electric vehicle called The Columbia Electric Carriage, he foresees its suitability as a clean and noiseless alternative to internal combustion engines, provided there is sufficient infrastructure to support it.
“This electric car is absolutely silent and clean. No smell or vibration. They will be very useful when charging stations remain manageable.” said Charles Stewart Rolls, Co-Founder, Rolls-Royce, 1900.
Now, more than 120 years after that prophecy, the time has come for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars to fulfill its founding father’s prophecy.
The company describes the Spectre as a spiritual successor to the 2000s Phantom Coupe with an overall length of 214.6 inches and a wheelbase of 126.3 inches at 7.2 and 3.8 inches, respectively.
The Spectre is built on the same Luxury Architecture platform that has underpinned everything its car production since 2017 from Cullinan and Ghost to Phantom and Boat Tail.
Rolls-Royce also says that the Spectre aims for an EPA estimate range of up to 260 miles, which is 14 miles better than the Porsche Taycan GTS.
Spectre is expected to be available soon, with first client shipments starting in Q4 2023 and comes with a starting price tag of $413,000.
