As the highly anticipated debut of the Rivian R2 electric SUV approaches on March 7, the EV startup has released additional teasers to generate excitement for its upcoming, more affordable model, expected to broaden the brand’s appeal significantly.

The latest teaser images suggest that the R2 will bear a strong resemblance to a scaled-down version of the R1S, Rivian’s larger electric SUV. The cropped teaser of the rear hints at sharper styling elements, consistent with Rivian’s design language.

In teaser videos shared on social media, Rivian provides a brief glimpse of the R2 SUV parked in a garage. While obscured by shadows, the video confirms that the R2 will feature a front-end design similar to the R1 series, including a full-width glowing white LED bar running across the front, replacing the traditional grille. This distinctive styling is complemented by vertical headlight stacks, dubbed “Stadium Lights” by Rivian.

Rivian’s unveiling of the R2 is expected to be unconventional, with details emerging from a municipal meeting in Laguna Beach, California. The city approved Rivian’s request to use a portion of Main Beach Park for an event on March 7, where the R2 will be showcased alongside other Rivian vehicles.

Despite some opposition from residents, city officials noted Rivian’s contributions to the community, including the refurbishment and reopening of the Laguna Beach movie theater. Rivian has also offered to donate two vehicles to the city for three years, separate from the event.
