Rivian to Ship Free NACS Adapter in April for Tesla Supercharger Access

Rivian has officially secured access to Tesla’s renowned Supercharger network. The company has announced plans to distribute NACS DC adapters to its owners at no cost starting next month.

This development comes after Tesla opened its connector to other automakers, aiming to establish it as the new charging standard in North America. Rivian swiftly embraced this opportunity following Ford’s initial foray into the network.

Ford led the charge by providing a free adapter to Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning owners last month, paving the way for Rivian’s integration. Rivian has now confirmed the commencement of EV integration into Tesla’s Supercharger network, marking a significant milestone for both companies.

Rivian owners can now access the Tesla Supercharger network through the Rivian app. Additionally, those with a third-party NACS-to-CCS adapter can utilize Superchargers marked as “open to non-Tesla EVs” with their Rivian vehicles, directly through the app.

In a press release, Rivian highlighted its in-house charging hardware and software management, enabling seamless integration of most fast chargers, including the Supercharger network, into its charging ecosystem. The company’s unified digital platforms facilitate a smooth transition between the mobile app and in-vehicle infotainment, offering a comprehensive experience for Rivian owners.

To ensure a hassle-free experience, Rivian advises against purchasing third-party adapters, as they will provide them free of charge. Owners can expect to receive a notification through their vehicles containing a QR code to initiate the process of obtaining their adapter.
