U.S.-based electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian Automotive has rolled out a new lease promotion for its second-generation R1 electric vehicles, aiming to stimulate consumer interest and support ongoing production efforts.
The offer, available throughout May 2025, allows customers to lease a Rivian R1S or R1T equipped with a dual-motor drivetrain, Max battery pack, and performance upgrade without an initial down payment.

The lease deal combines a $6,500 discount from Rivian with the existing $7,500 federal EV lease credit, potentially offering customers up to $14,000 in total savings. The federal credit, applicable to battery-electric vehicles manufactured in the United States, is factored directly into the lease at the point of sale. This structure eliminates the need for buyers to wait until tax season to realize savings, offering a more immediate financial incentive.
Rivian’s latest offer comes at a time when the company is actively expanding its model lineup and preparing for the production of its next-generation vehicles, including the R2, R3, and R3X. The success of its flagship R1 models—especially the R1S and R1T—has helped fund the development of new assembly lines at its production facility in Normal, Illinois. The forthcoming R2 model alone has reportedly generated significant consumer interest with hundreds of thousands of reservations.

As part of the lease terms, customers must take delivery of their qualifying vehicle by May 31, 2025. Although there is no required down payment, other fees at the time of signing include a $500 deposit, the first month’s lease payment, an $895 acquisition fee, and no security deposit. The offer is available in select U.S. states, and Rivian has clarified that the promotion may not be combined with other public offers unless specifically permitted.
The Gen 2 R1S and R1T are updated versions of Rivian’s original electric SUV and pickup truck, designed to deliver improved performance and efficiency. These models form the backbone of Rivian’s strategy to scale production and expand its presence in the U.S. EV market.
