Rivian has opened a new charging outpost in Joshua Tree National Park as part of its expanding Rivian Adventure Network (RAN). The station, which became operational on December 5, 2024, is designed to cater to both Rivian and non-Rivian electric vehicles (EVs).

The new facility offers high-speed chargers delivering up to 900 volts, with CCS connectors that are compatible with North American Charging Standard (NACS) vehicles. “Using a new charger design to accommodate any compatible EV in North America, these sites are an important milestone in support of electrifying the entire transportation sector,” Rivian said in a statement.

Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, emphasized the broader goals behind the network’s expansion. “Since the beginning, we’ve understood that creating great products like the R1T and R1S only made up half the equation,” he said. “To achieve widespread electrification, you also need a really good charging network. Now, we’re excited to bring the Rivian Adventure Network—with its ease of use and exceptional reliability—to other EV drivers around North America, investing in a future where charging on the road will be simple, sustainable, and convenient.”

In addition to charging services, the outpost provides a lounge area with amenities such as snacks, coffee, and a children’s play area, as well as educational resources on the park’s wildlife. Rivian’s mobile app integrates with the chargers, enabling tap-to-pay functionality for a smoother user experience.
