Rimac, the Croatian automotive company, has recently been observed testing their electric vehicle, the Nevera, at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The car, which previously set multiple acceleration records, was seen with new sensors and potential timing equipment on its roof, indicating Rimac’s intention to assess its performance on the challenging racetrack.

The current record for the fastest production electric vehicle lap at the Nurburgring is held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, with a time of 7 minutes and 33.3 seconds. However, in May 2017, the Nio EP9 completed a lap in an impressive 6 minutes and 45.9 seconds.

It’s worth noting that the Nio EP9, despite being built for customers, may not be suitable for road use. The fastest lap achieved by an electric vehicle at the Nurburgring belongs to the VW ID.R, which completed the circuit in just 6 minutes and 5 seconds in June 2019.

Considering the specifications of the Rimac Nevera, it is expected to perform well and potentially achieve a lap time below the 7-minute mark. With its four electric motors generating 1,914 horsepower and 1,741 lb-ft (2,360 Nm) of torque, the Nevera boasts impressive power.

Despite its weight of 5,070 lbs (2,300 kg), it is said to handle corners exceptionally well, similar to its acceleration capabilities in a straight line. Therefore, it poses a potential threat to the current lap record of 6 minutes and 35.183 seconds, held by the Mercedes-AMG One on the 20.82 km configuration of the track.
