Swedish electric motorcycle manufacturer RGNT made headlines in February 2023 when it announced its plans to attempt a world speed record on ice. The company developed a modified version of its RGNT No.1 Classic SE, called Project Aurora, for the task. The bike was equipped with a special aerodynamic fairing and spiked tires to ensure optimal performance on the ice.
The RGNT team headed to the SMA Svenska Motorsport Alliansen Speed Weekend in Ă rsunda, Sweden, on February 24-25, 2023, for the sanctioned and licensed event. The team’s objective was clear – to break the existing world record and set a new benchmark.
According to RGNT, the team’s efforts were fruitful, and they set three new world records. Timmy Eriksson, an RGNT engineer, rode the modified motorcycle to a top speed of 155.14 km/h (just under 96.4 mph), setting a new record for the Fastest Electric Motorcycle On Ice.
Using a production RGNT No. 1 Classic SE, the team also set a new record for Fastest Electric A1 Motorcycle on Ice, clocking in at 135.03 km/h (or about 83.9 mph). Additionally, they achieved a new record for Fastest Electric Motorcycle Production Model on Ice, at 114.3 km/h (or about 71 mph).
The team faced many challenges while attempting the world record, including maintaining traction on the ice and dealing with the negative effects of the cold weather on battery efficiency. The racer had to stay warm enough to be functional and alert, and even minor issues like material reactions to the cold presented unforeseen difficulties. Despite these obstacles, RGNT remained steadfast and achieved its stated goal on February 28, 2023.
Currently, RGNT sells its electric motorcycles on its website and has dealerships in several European countries. Although it has plans for North America, there are no dealerships in that market as of March 1, 2023. However, the company does ship its bikes to countries where dealerships are not yet established, with owners responsible for delivery, customs, and additional fees as required.
