Renault Group has named Josep Maria Recasens as the new chief executive officer of its electric vehicle unit, Ampere, effective April 1, 2025. Recasens, who has served as Ampere’s chief operating officer, will succeed Renault CEO Luca de Meo, who had been managing the division in a dual role since its spin-off in 2023.
“I am very pleased to hand over to Josep Maria as CEO, following on from his role as Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Ampere, to continue the deep and rapid transformation we have been driving with Ampere since its creation,” de Meo said in a statement.

Recasens, a former executive at Seat, joined Renault in 2021 as Senior Vice President for Strategy and Business Development, later becoming the group’s Chief Strategy Officer. Following the establishment of Ampere in November 2023, he took on the role of COO. “For the past 18 months, we have been driving a fast-paced transformation with the Ampere teams, aiming to catch up with the best in the industry in record time,” Recasens said. “I am excited to continue this journey as CEO and to showcase Ampere’s full potential alongside our teams.”
Alongside Recasens, Renault announced new appointments to Ampere’s leadership team. Marie Ollier will take on the role of Vice President of Human Resources, while Sandra Gomez will oversee Ampere’s strategy in addition to her responsibilities in product planning and software. Vittorio d’Arienzo, already a member of the leadership team, will expand his role as Product Global Leader for all Ampere vehicles.

Ampere is responsible for Renault’s electric vehicle lineup, including the Renault 5, Scenic E-Tech Electric, and upcoming Renault 4 and Twingo models. While the vehicles will continue to be marketed under the Renault brand, development, production, and sales will be handled internally by Ampere. Renault had initially planned an IPO for Ampere but postponed the listing in early 2024 due to market conditions.
