Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance Deepens Global Collaboration on Electric Vehicles

The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance has shared further information about their collaborative plans and vision for the next 15 years. The partnership is set to encompass joint efforts in regions such as Europe, India, and Latin America. Rumors have been circulating about a potential 800-volt architecture in Europe.

At the end of January, Nissan revealed its intentions to acquire a maximum stake of 15% in the Renault Group’s upcoming independent electric vehicle division, Ampere. Mitsubishi is also evaluating the possibility of investing in Ampere, though the exact percentage the car manufacturer is eyeing has not been disclosed yet.

The alliance partners plan multiple initiatives in Europe, India, and Latin America, including electric vehicles. Nissan and Renault Group will maintain their use of shared technologies for European cars, including the possibility of utilizing a shared 800-volt architecture.

Top management in France and Japan acknowledge that 400-volt models will no longer meet the demands of the competitive environment. To maintain a standard charging time, Nissan and the Renault Group plan to share technology for their European vehicles, including the use of a common 800-volt architecture.

“To ensure a benchmark charging time, Nissan and the Renault Group would continue sharing technologies on their European cars, including potential usage of common 800-volt architecture,” the joint statement reads.

The alliance confirms that Renault will manufacture a Nissan B-segment electric vehicle at ElectriCity in northern France beginning in 2026. The model, based on the CMF-BEV platform, will succeed the Micra for Europe and share drive technology with the upcoming Renault 5 Electric.
