German charging infrastructure provider Reload-Solution has unveiled a new multi-level security system designed to prevent theft of charging cables at fast-charging stations — a recurring issue that has caused millions of euros in damage across the country. The new system, known as GridZon, is currently compatible with several Alpitronic charging models.
Cable theft has become a costly problem for charging operators, often driven by the high copper content in cables. While previous countermeasures have included surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and reinforced sheaths, Reload-Solution’s GridZon introduces a more comprehensive and technology-driven approach. Originally developed for the company’s own network, the system will now be available to the wider charging industry.

“Our goal was clear: simple, secure, retrofittable. No intervention in the legally calibrated system, no complicated installation, but maximum protection,” said Jonas Radau, Managing Director of Reload-Solution, in a post on LinkedIn.
GridZon’s security features include a cut-resistant cable sheath made of Dyneema fabric with warning print, an integrated tamper wire that triggers an alarm when cut, a 117 dB siren, and a flashing light for visual alerts. The system also offers online monitoring via eSIM for real-time status updates and a silent alarm that can notify operators via SMS, call, or email. Additional elements include a 3D-printed stainless steel box with security bolts and an optional GPS tracker for theft recovery.

The system, which does not require modifications to the charging station itself, can be installed in approximately 1.5 to 2 hours per unit. It is initially compatible with Alpitronic’s HYC150/200 and HYC300/400 fast-charging stations, with versions for other models in development.
A long-term field test of GridZon is already underway at Stadtwerke Schwerte, a municipal utility near Dortmund. Reload-Solution said pre-orders are now open, with deliveries scheduled to begin in January 2026.
