Circle K has installed Sweden’s first 1,000 kW (1MW) charging system for heavy vehicles, marking a step in the country’s rollout of ultra-fast charging infrastructure.
The Megawatt Charging System (MCS) was launched at Circle K Värnamo along the E4 motorway, north of Helsingborg. The site, the company’s 31st truck charging station in Sweden, features an Alpitronic HYC1000 unit with three 600 kW bays and one MCS bay capable of delivering up to 1MW. It is the first HYC1000 installation in the Nordic region.
Lennart Olsson, senior manager of pricing & eMobility heavy transportation at Circle K Sweden, said: “We’ve had an exceptional year – among other things, we opened our first dedicated charging station, Circle K Järna was named the third-best charging station in the world, and now we’re the first to launch the most powerful charger on the market.”
Circle K was the first in Scandinavia to install heavy vehicle charging, beginning in Gothenburg in 2022. Its network now stretches from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north, which it says is Sweden’s largest for ultra-fast charging of both trucks and passenger vehicles.
In addition to combining EV chargers with conventional fuel stations, Circle K opened its first EV-only hub in Gothenburg in May in partnership with Finnish supplier Kempower.
