recell.store, an online marketplace for used electric vehicle batteries owned by Altilium, has entered into a partnership with UK battery testing and analytics company ClearWatt to offer battery health assessment services for organizations handling used and end-of-life EV batteries.

The companies said the collaboration will focus on providing battery condition data to vehicle salvage yards, dismantlers and other businesses involved in the recovery, resale and recycling of electric vehicle batteries.

Pilot Programme Planned

The initiative will begin with a pilot programme involving selected industry participants.

Under the programme, organizations will use ClearWatt’s EV Flash Test technology to assess battery condition and generate battery health reports. The resulting data will be used to support transactions conducted through the recell.store marketplace.

The companies said battery health information may help identify batteries that could be suitable for repair, reuse, second-life applications such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), or recycling.

Marketplace Integration

According to the companies, the partnership is intended to provide additional battery condition data to buyers and sellers using the recell.store platform.

Simon Reid, Managing Director of recell.store, said:

“Battery testing is a crucial step in giving buyers greater confidence and transparency when purchasing an EV battery. This solution ensures everyone knows exactly what they are getting, while remaining simple and effective, supporting recell.store’s mission to be a one-stop-shop solutions provider. We look forward to working with ClearWatt to offer this important solution to our partners.”

Battery Health Assessment Process

ClearWatt’s EV Flash Test uses vehicle diagnostic data and onboard diagnostics (OBD) technology to evaluate battery condition.

The process involves connecting a diagnostic device to the vehicle and pairing it with the ClearWatt mobile application. Data collected from the vehicle is then analyzed through the company’s battery analytics platform to generate a battery health report.

The companies said the report is designed to provide independent information on battery condition and performance to support purchasing, valuation and resale decisions.

Existing Industry Use

ClearWatt said its testing technology is currently used by vehicle dealers, leasing companies, fleet operators and remarketing businesses in the UK.

Cameron Brown, Head of Product at ClearWatt, said:

“Providing transparency and clarity on EVs is one of our founding principles at ClearWatt, and working with recell.store gives us the opportunity to extend our reach across the industry, making testing an automatic part of the receiving process at salvage yards and dealerships.”

“We want to make sure a state of health report is an absolute given for anyone seeking to purchase a used or end-of-life EV battery.”

The companies said the partnership is intended to support battery management decisions across different stages of the EV battery lifecycle by providing standardized battery condition information.
